Call for compositions

Submission of compositions on “Peace of mind”
The Murau International Music Festival (MIMF) 2017 will take place from August 18th to the 25th and will consist of a workshop program for voice and composition as well as a three-part concert series. All composers have the opportunity to submit hitherto unpublished scores to this year’s theme of “Peace of mind”. Selected works will be premiered at the gala concert on August 25th under the artistic direction of Zane Zalis.

If one sees peace of mind as a fleeting emotional state that is difficult to quantify precisely, then it raises the question of what its essence is altogether – what it comprises. Peace of mind does not depend solely on goods, opportunities for development and cultural achievements. An excess of product choices and possibilities and the compulsion to make a decision that goes with it as well as the pressure to perform and compete can lead to discontentment. Social controls and the desire for self-presentation have intensified in recent years by promoting the dissemination of information and visual images in social media. So what is essential in order for one to find peace of mind? Are we entitled to peace of mind? Is there possibly a social compulsion to have a peace of mind? Or is discontentment even a necessary engine for further development? Composers are invited to explore these and other questions.

We’re looking forward to your contributions!
